Hands-on Learning Experiences for Second through Eight Grade
Extended overnight trips are both educational and inspirational taking a hands-on approach to learning. These experiences include the cultural arts, historical and science oriented programs creating lasting memories for Stoneybrooke students!
Rawhide Ranch (2nd/3rd Grade)
Second and third grade students get a taste of the "Old West" while at Rawhide Ranch in Bonsall, CA. They ride horses in the corral, learn how to care for ranch animals, and attend classes on pony showmanship, animal husbandry and trick riding.
Fourth graders take a trip to Sacramento, CA where they visit the State Capitol, old governor's mansion, railroad museum, Old Town Sacramento, the town of Coloma (Sutter's Mill), and Sutter's Fort among other sites.
Fifth grade students sail to Catalina Island for three days where they snorkel, hike in the surrounding hills, and attend indoor and outdoor classes on the animal and plant life that surround Catalina. This trip is hosted by the Catalina Island Marine Institute.
Sixth grade students trek to Astro Camp located outside the town of Idyllwild, CA in the San Bernardino Mountains where they study the stars and constellations, shoot bottle rockets, make lunar landers and study conditions in outer space for three days.
Seventh graders enjoy this 3-day/2-night adventure camp that focuses on team building, overcoming challenges and problem solving in a safe, supportive and exciting environment!
Eighth grade students take a week long trip to Washington, DC, Gettysburg and New York. Highlights of the trip include laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, touring the battlefield at Gettysburg, visiting the 9/11 memorial and much, much more!
Stoneybrooke students participate in a variety of ACSI
competitions throughout the school year, such as:
Speech Meet
Competition for students in grades 1-8 to select a poem, speech or passage to deliver in front of their classmates. Those who are judged as giving the best presentation are awarded the opportunity to participate in a grade level meet. The winners of the grade level meet move on to a regional competition.
Spelling Bee
Competition for students in grades 1-8 to determine the best spellers. Students spell against students in their own grade level at school. Then those who demonstrate mastery in spelling move on to the next level which is a District Spelling Bee where students spell against students in their own grade level. Then the finalists and runners-up from grades 5-8 spell against each other in the Final Spelldown. The top four placers at the Regional Bee move on to the National Spelling Bee.
Math Olympics
Students in grades 3-8 compete with students at their own grade level in arithmetic computation and mathematical reasoning to determine the top math students. Next, students from a number of other schools gather to compete against each other in these same categories. Ribbons and medals are awarded at the end of the competition to the highest scoring students.
Piano Festival
Students in kindergarten through 8th grade are welcome to participate in this event. The festival is not a competition: each student is judged against a standard of excellence and not in competition with others. Students may enter the classical or hymn division or both. Each student receives a certificate and ribbon. This event is held at a nearby location and is attended by students in many Christian schools in the local area. Students are selected from their class and grade to represent Stoneybrooke in regional competitions.

Meet the Masters
First through Sixth Grade
This extensive program takes each child into the world of art where they are enriched with information about the artist, their expression of art, and the techniques they used to create their masterpieces. The children are taught texture, line, abstract, realism, pointillism, and the list goes on. They learn about the lives of the “masters”and their background. Once they are imparted with this information they then have the joy of implementing the art techniques themselves with actual various art mediums. You only need see the joy in the children’s faces to know this is an excellent program.
At Stoneybrooke, Meet the Masters
is funded through SPO from generous contributions from our families. Each year we engage in a fundraiser that will support next years’ program. The cost of the program for each Stoneybrooke child is $10.00 per year! That includes supplies, lectures, and actual hands-on application. All our in-class projects are taught by Stoneybrooke parents who have a passion to impart the love of art to the children. There are six projects throughout the year, and each child’s art masterpiece is displayed in the “Gallery Halls” on each campus. There are many opportunities to become involved with Meet the Masters! For more information about this excellent program, please feel free to contact us at [email protected].
Music
Kindergarten through Sixth Grade
Stoneybrooke is excited to offer a strong music program which includes vocal training, ear training, music reading with rhythm hand drums and various rhythm instruments. Students also have many opportunities to participate in worship and lead others throughout the year. Each student will participate in a school-wide musical production once per year.
Fourth grade students receive direct instruction with the recorder. In fifth and sixth grade they work in groups learning the violin and the guitar. The students who choose to continue in their music skills have an opportunity to use their God given gifts in our worship chapels. Students who receive outside instruction on the piano may perform in the annual ACSI Music Festival.
Physical Education
Kindergarten through Sixth Grade
The Physical Education program at Stoneybrooke seeks to educate students through movement. During PE classes, early elementary students develop their locomotor movements as well as develop object and body control skills. All other students will learn a variety of sports skill development including volleyball, basketball, soccer, street hockey and more. They will be given opportunities to exercise and learn about physical fitness and health while emphasizing social and interpersonal skills. It is our goal that Stoneybrooke PE students will grow in their skills, confidence and Christian faith through participation, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Spanish
First through Sixth Grade
Conversa, founded by two Spanish teachers in 2004, provides Spanish instruction to K-8 in public and private schools throughout Orange County. Conversa uses a structured, engaging program with the goal of enabling children to communicate effectively in a second language.
Conversa’s customized curriculum is based on the most popular structures in the Spanish language and utilizes those structures in authentic communication. Conversa teachers use the TPRS approach (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling), a language acquisition strategy that allows students to learn grammar, reading and writing along with conversation by listening, speaking and repeating patterns, in much the same way they acquired their first language. The TPRS approach builds communicative and comprehensible language skills in children by teaching in a low anxiety, high interest, active and natural environment.
Technology
First through Sixth Grade
Stoneybrooke students enjoy a wide variety of projects each year through which they build their knowledge and skills in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (S.T.E.A.M.). Projects include 3D printing, coding (computer programming), and robotics. Working individually, in pairs, and in small groups, they explore technology and engineering to become innovative designers, communicators, collaborators, and computational thinkers. By applying their knowledge of Internet safety and research to major academic projects, they also become good “digital citizens.”
Coding begins in the first grade and 3D printing in third! Using LEGO Mindstorm EV3 Robotics kits, fifth and sixth grade students, design, engineer, build and program their own robots. The robust Technology curriculum uses the academic collaboration tools in G Suite (Google Docs, Slides, and Sheets) as well as Microsoft Office so that Stoneybrooke graduates are well prepared for high school and college.

Student Success Program
An Educational Learning Assistance Program
The Student Success Program (SSP) is an educational learning assistance program designed for students who need additional support in order to achieve grade level success. SSP is designed to include all important members of the student’s school life: parents, teachers, resource director, and administration, collaboratively working together to create and build ongoing academic, social, spiritual and self monitoring success in each student.
SSP functions as a Supplemental Independent Program and fees are paid directly to the program director on a monthly basis. The Resource Director is Cheryl Hilario, a credentialed classroom teacher with many years of elementary experience. Ms. Hilario is a credentialed School Psychologist with her Masters Degree in School Psychology and a Bachelors degree in Psychology. In addition to her psychological studies, she holds a Bachelors degree in theology, which gives her a well-balanced view in both fields.
SSP is a fee-based service. It is offered either 1 or 2 times per week for 45 minutes per session. If interested, please contact Ms. Hilario directly by email or by phone (949) 233-8735.
